Gratitude is the Best Attitude

Here is my full on gratitude blog. 2020 has been a hella crazy year. I mentioned a few things that I was grateful for, but really let’s dive in.

Back in January I had to have a biopsy done on my thyroid to make sure I didn’t have cancer. Good news is that I didn’t. I’ve had a repeat ultrasound earlier in the week, and most likely will have to go through this again on another part of the thyroid, but you know, I’m grateful for this. I’m grateful for the medical professionals during this time and that we have the medical advantages that detect disease.

In February my husband and I were able to get away to Mexico for a week. I had the opportunity to teach yoga at a resort meet new people and just relax and unwind. I was grateful for my friend Rachel who checked in on the cats every day, feeding and changing out water. I’m also grateful for the airline finding my wallet that I lost on the plane somewhere between Chicago and Cleveland. I had to get a new license this year anyway, so I got to do it early.

In March and April, I have to thank the pandemic. Even though at the beginning of this being so emotionally draining, I made it through the grieving period. I’m grateful again that I had the time to spend with my husband and my cats. I had to say goodbye to my kitty that I had for 17 years, but I was grateful I had the month to spend my time at home with her everyday. I still miss her so much, and even now when I think of her I cry a little. I know she she is in a better place right now. During that time as well, I’m grateful for finding a yoga teacher training that provided that creative outlet, inspired me and offered growth.

In May, I was grateful for our government and really for the first time as 1099 person I was able to collect unemployment. I was able to retool my business, and this sparked the idea of creating a more appropriate studio space which will be located in the basement. As I write this my husband is hard at work, adding the insulation and pretty soon will probably start on the drywall. The room is really beginning to take shape. I’ll be really excited in 2021, to be able to share some in person events.

In June, I was grateful to finish up my yoga teacher training. I applied for a job with the studio that I did my teacher training through, which in a couple months lead to an hourly part time job, with benefits, and paid time off. I mean what yoga teacher has that kind of opportunity? I’m so grateful for my boss Michelle and My Vinyasa Practice for giving me the opportunity to be part of their community. I’m grateful for the connections and friendships I’ve made. Everyone I come in contact with through the online classes or through peer support have really made my life so full. I thank you for that.

In August and September my husband and I have been able to eliminate a lot of expenses. We had paid off and sold my husbands car through Carvana, took the extra money and paid off my car. I’m grateful for a 2 year old car that is in great condition and that we own.

I’m grateful for October and November which provided me the opportunity to expand my mind into different areas of wellness. I completed a Mindfulness Meditation teacher training, a Mindfulness Coaching training, and I just completed my Level 1 Aromatherapy Certification. All of these I normally wouldn’t even have time for if it wasn’t for my current employer. My husband and I also completed another trip around the sun- another year older and wiser I guess.

What does December hold? Well, I’m not entirely sure. I do know that whatever happens or doesn’t happen, I’ll be grateful for it. As someone quoted - “Gratitude is the best attitude”...and so it is.
