I recently had surpassed the 4 year mark of becoming a yoga teacher. I’m blown away that I have managed to actually find my passion and grow with it over these past few years. Part of that story is my husband Matt. If it wasn’t for his support and love it might not have come to this point.

I remember like it was yesterday, in my email inbox there was an email that intrigued me. A studio in Cleveland was going to be holding a yoga teacher training starting in October. The timing was perfect as I would have completed the marathon I was running and I had the time and energy to direct elsewhere. I was always placed in a support role, instructor role, a guide in every career I’ve had leading up to that point so I felt deep down that this was had potential. I had wanted to become a personal trainer a couple years before and it didn’t pan out maybe for this very reason. It wasn’t the right path for me.

Less than a week after I received that email, I was attending a yoga class with my teacher at a local studio, and as she began the class she announced that she was going to offer a teacher training beginning in January the following year. If this wasn’t a sign, I don’t know what is. I remember telling Matt excitedly that I really wanted to do this. One thing to realize that these trainings aren’t cheap. Matt putting on his analytical cap asked me all the hard hitting questions, can you make money doing this? how do you find work? Of course is this something you are really going to follow through with? From that point I reached out to a couple instructors I knew and a couple I didn’t know - a couple told me the truth about it including my own teacher. She was incredibly open and honest telling me exactly what it was like for her, and what I could expect during her training.  The fact that she took her time and energy to meet with me and talk to me 1:1 was a sign that I was supposed to be there. I then took all of my data and research and pleaded my case. He could tell this was something I needed to do, and how could he not support his wife?

That’s where it all started…after my training I started teaching at a local fitness studio and later an actual yoga studio. When I lost my full time office job, again his support was there for me as he let me pursue my passion full time. He knew deep down I would be miserable if I had to work in an office again. That day my position was eliminated the universe again was guiding. It was also another sign how amazing my support system was.

Once you find that person, may it be in this lifetime or the next you will know. They will see through all the layers and know and understand your passions, and be there for all of it, even when there might not be beer yoga involved.
