Open Your Heart

The most intimate relationship you will ever have is with yourself. When I started this journey with self, offering loving kindness was really all I knew. I would give and give and give, but I wasn’t truly being fulfilled.  It’s not about just loving the one good happy part, it’s about offering love to all the parts like that inner critic or inner victim. This cycle would continue and eventually I would fall out of practice and revert to non acceptance and not offering grace where needed. Opening the heart with compassion is key.

When working with mindfulness we are called to be aware when the voices of the inner critic or inner victim speak up, acknowledge them for what they are then release them with compassion.  It’s still a work in progress, you know offering love and kindness especially when you don’t like what you see. So it’s the big question, why would you want to feel loving toward the those bits and pieces that makes the heart close up? Because when you send out love, you experience that love as well.

My next metta practice will be someone I love, someone I feel neutral about, and then most importantly to myself to gently erase the layers of self rejection or self hatred. To be whole.
